Committee representatives discussed opportunities for the development of business tourism in St. Petersburg
The main topic of the event was the issues of strategic partnership of all interested parties in order to increase the competitiveness of St. Petersburg as one of the centers of world tourism.
Committee representatives spoke in the section “Strategic partnership in the event industry: principles and conditions of interaction”. The discussion was attended by the heads of domestic and foreign companies, organizers of congress and exhibition events, aviation and travel companies, as well as hoteliers.
Head of the Strategic Planning Department Natalya Gorbatyuk noted that the development of tourism is one of the most important goals of the city's socio-economic policy.
“Last year our city was visited by 8.2 million tourists, and almost half were foreign guests. By the end of 2019, we expect an increase in tourist traffic by more than 10%. In the coming years, we also expect an increase in the tourist flow. This will become possible due to the solution of a set of tasks laid down in the Strategy of Social and Economic Development of St. Petersburg until 2035, ”noted Natalya Gorbatyuk.
Thus, the Strategy pays special attention to the issues of expanding offers on the tourism market, in particular, the promotion of business tourism. Already today, including due to the well-developed congress and exhibition infrastructure, the city is one of the leaders in business tourism in the Russian Federation. In the future, it is assumed that its role will increase.
In addition, the representative of the Committee spoke about other priorities of the Strategy, as well as basic industries, development of science and innovation.
